'This is all so embarrassing'

Staff at a new Hooters restaurant in the UK have left the internet confused after performing a song for diners in what appears to be an American accent.

A video of the waitresses serenading those eating in at the new venue in Liverpool, northern England, shows the girls singing their own rendition of AC/DC’s You Shook Me All Night Long.

But social media users were quick to point out something was off about the performance – which also included choreographed dance moves – with some stating the Scouse women were singing with American accents.

As a result the clip, shared by TikTok user @garyousalice969, has amassed over 1.4 million views since it was posted on Monday with many labeling it “awkward” and “tacky”.

“Why do I feel embarrassed?” one user questioned.

“OMG this has made me turn inside out from awkwardness. I’m now on the floor in a ball,” another said.

While another wrote: “Oh god … it’s all so tragic.”

The video was later shared on Twitter where people mocked the American franchise and called it a “gimmick”.

“This is the most embarrassing thing I’ve ever seen,” one commented.

“Can’t see that American gimmick lasting in Liverpool,” another remarked.

“Went on way too long,” another chipped.

It’s not just social media users who are unimpressed by the latest dining option in the British city, with the local council also taking issue with the restaurant’s attempts to display illuminated signs outside to attract customers.

Liverpool Local Council rejected the request, stating the “size, design and sitting would fail to preserve the character and appearance” of the adjacent listed buildings.

Hooters has long been seen as a controversial dining experience, recently hitting headlines over the staff members sexy uniforms – which are made up of tight T-shirts and minuscule booty shorts.

The revealing uniforms were blasted for being “X-rated”, prompting the US restaurant chain to respond.

“As we continue to listen and update the image of the Hooters Girls, we are clarifying that they have the option to choose from traditional uniforms or the new ones,” a statement said.

“They can determine which style of shorts best fits their body style and personal image.

“We’re excited to see a national trend toward self-expression and inclusivity that bodes well for our marketplace.”

The company continuously worked with “our Hooters Girls to refresh and update the image of our brand ambassadors and to empower them to feel their best while at work”, it added.
