The dejected fan is a hallmark of postseason sports broadcasts, and one of them called into a radio show to describe what it felt like to become a viral meme.

Emily — a Cowboys fan — was not only shown crying on the broadcast of the 49ers’ victory on Sunday, but was referred to by Tony Romo, who said it was a little too early for tears with four minutes remaining in the game.

Ultimately, the Cowboys still had two drives left in them.

“It’s definitely been all over the place and kind of blew up pretty quickly, so it’s been interesting to watch everything play out, that’s for sure,” Emily told the “Hang Zone” on The Ticket Sports Radio in Dallas on Tuesday. “I think it was around the last 30 seconds [of the game], and I just looked down at my phone and had HUNDREDS of notifications,” she said. “I just immediately started laughing. I was like ‘Oh my gosh, done crying now!’ This is something that doesn’t happen very often.”

Emily said she has been a huge Cowboys fan since she was little and went to games with her mother. She’s grown knowledgeable out the team and emotionally invested in Dak Prescott’s success.

At the time she was crying, she said, she still had a “little faith” the team would win, but that faith was waning.

Emily mentioned she was at the game with her husband, who did did not appear to be consoling her, adding he knows she gets emotional over football as they were high school sweethearts and have been together for about a decade.

She’s prepared to embrace her newfound fame.

“It’s funny because I haven’t said anything to anyone,” Emily said. “I went to work, everyone knew. I walked around at a grocery store and someone was pointing at me. It’s just funny because it blew up so fast and it’s just going to be one of those memes that are memorable for some unfortunate times in Cowboys nation.

“I’m just trying to not let a lot of the comments get to me, and if you can’t laugh at yourself, then there’s probably an issue. I’m trying to laugh at myself and just move on from it.”

Emily did give out her Instagram handle on the radio, where her last post pokes fun at teary episode at the game with a “BRB crying” caption.

The account has since jumped from having just over 700 Instagram followers at the time of her radio appearance, to over 1,900 as of Friday afternoon.
